Toy shop design

My toy shop is a Scandinavian and neutral design, making it different to most toy stores. I didn’t want the space to have the feel of a typical retail toy store with bold colours and overwhelming amounts of toys. I have tried to create a balance by incorporating a play area within the toy store on the mezzanine level to section it off from the toys.I’ve created a toyshop that I would have loved to go into both as a child and an adult.

In my design, there is the proximity between the two parts of the shop, the main display area, and the play area. I have done this by creating a half mezzanine level which sits just on the right-hand side of the shop, looking out on to the street from the balcony and a slide that goes outside of the shop. It took a few sketched visuals for me to get my concept and ideas together to create the best toyshop I could imagine myself. I think the mezzanine makes the shop stand out as it lings to the ground floor with a ladder and slide, making it super fun for the children. I have also used led balloon lights to create a sense of freedom and relaxation.

I found that floor space is very important and I need to create a clear route to guide the audience throughout their journey in my shop. I have looked at different materials that I could use to make my shop stand out and not only be safe for the children but for the environment too, so the design of my store is sustainable as most of the material used include natural wood, recycled apple crates. I have decided to go for these materials as they complement each other and will not contrast largely with the display but most importantly, they are completely safe for children. Another key element in my design is a tree shelf that sits in the corner of the store, to show how I designed the shelf, I created a 3d model that I laser cut in my University workshop.
