This morning we set off in our groups to complete a fire survey in the Champan building. We assessed all the fire escape doors and routes, alarms, refuge points and other safety-related things that we then marked on our floorplan. I and Aina did the ground floor and Megan and Lucy looked at the first floor. After completing the survey, we used all the information we found to fill out a document with questions regarding the building we survey.
I didn't think this task would be interesting task, however, it surprised me as I learned a lot about fire safety and why certain things are done one way and not the other. I am now starting to notice all the things we have learned such as the intumescent strip on a fire door. I never knew it expanded to create a tight seal around the door to prevent fire escaping.
Below you can see all the photos we took on the site survey.
